My Story…
I found a lump while pregnant and was told by my OBGYN that it was my milk coming in. At three months postpartum, I went back to my OBGYN and was sent for my first mammogram/ultrasound that showed the lump is cancer. After various other scans, a CT scan showed innumerable liver lesions and a biopsy confirmed the lesions are breast cancer. I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer on July 16, 2025 at 3 months postpartum.

ABOUT METASTATIC BREAST CANCER
Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is stage 4 breast cancer, for which there is no cure. Globally, more than 670,000 people die each year from MBC, with more than 43,000 dying each year in the U.S. alone (117 per day). Metastatic breast cancer spreads mostly to the bones, liver, lungs, and brain, causing MBC patients to be in treatment for the rest of their lives—with only 31 percent of MBC patients in the U.S. living longer than five years. Approximately 30 percent of early-stage breast cancers recur as stage 4 MBC. While 98 percent of all breast-cancer-related deaths are from MBC, less than 13 percent of overall breast-cancer funding is currently allocated to researching metastatic breast cancer.
METAvivor has been able to award over $41 million to fund 230 MBC research grants. We are extremely passionate about raising money for this cause and truly thank you for helping save lives by participating in or fundraising for this event.
WHAT IS #LightUpMBC?
#LightUpMBC is the world's largest visual representation of awareness for Metastatic Breast Cancer and largest fundraising campaign for METAvivor. The global campaign partners with over 300 landmarks across every U.S. State and many countries around the world to illuminate in the MBC awareness colors of pink, teal and green on October 13th, MBC Awareness Day. That evening, #LightUpMBC Live is a dynamic virtual event that serves as the centerpiece of the #LightUpMBC campaign, bringing together the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) community and its supporters for an evening of storytelling, inspiration, and impact. This live-streamed program features powerful stories from MBC patients and their families, musical performances, and appearances by special guests who amplify the mission of raising awareness and funds for MBC research.
